One of my favourite therapies that I have been practising for years is essential oils and they are now suddenly fashionable in the wellness world.  Whilst these power plant medicines can have some incredible effects on your health and wellbeing, I always like to mention first, that they are not a substitute for good quality nutrition and a healthy balanced lifestyle.

That being said there is a lot that they can be used for including as first aid for period pain.  Unfortunately, research in essent...

I love ovulation, it is the time in my cycle when my confidence is high, I feel good,  I have so much energy and confidence, I feel on top of the world.  Oh, and libido is at its peak too.  This should be a great time in our cycle but imagine this: you are in your ovulation groove and life is going well, then you get hit by an excruciating pain that came out of nowhere.

It may be in the front of your abdomen or even in your back.  You are struggling to breathe through it and get round t...

In my post "Signs That Your Period Needs A Helping Hand" we covered the signs that there is something wrong with your periods.  In this post, we are going to cover what the main causes of period problems are.  You may have one of these or a combination, which is why it can be hard to pinpoint the exact cause or why one protocol may not fix the whole issue.

1.  Times of Stress or Illness

Reproduction and our whole reproductive system is not essential to our survival.  So it makes sense that wh...

Do you ever get a migraine just before or during your period?  It can be so debilitating, you just can't get out of bed (or the bathroom) and it feels like no one understands.  Unfortunately, there are a number of causes so it isn't always easy to pinpoint what the cause is, all of them are great ways of ensuring optimal hormonal and reproductive health.

I know from experience, that I tried plenty of remedies when I got migraines, but I now know that dealing with the root cause is more...

I am quite well known for talking about how standard disposable sanitary products can affect your fertility, your lives of period pain and even cause serious illnesses such as Toxic Shock Syndrome.  But I keep being asked about the alternatives that are out there.

I have a number of clients who found just by switching their sanitary products, they got rid of period pain, some of their PMS reduced and other symptoms reduced too.  But one question I constantly get asked are what are the alternative...

I don't know about you but I hated castor oil taken as a remedy, but it is now a valuable tool in my toolkit for my clients who are suffering from period pain, cramping, clots and dark sludgy stuff in their bleeds and fertility issues, but this time, used externally.

I first came across castor oil packs used in this way was in my fertility massage therapy training over 2 years ago.  I have seen the application of castor oil help with so many women's health problems, such as period pain, endometri...

Endometriosis is a very painful condition which is very often ignored and many women find that they will have to go to their doctors for years before they get any form or investigation or diagnosis.  Even then, their pain is often dismissed and they are told to either, just take painkillers to get on with it or told to have children to correct the problem.  In women with complete families, hysterectomy is often advised, despite the health challenges that can still occur after the surgery and the...

Last month I attended the Fertility Show in London, (you may have seen me on the Fertilty Massage Therapy stand).  I love doing these shows as it is great to hear people's thoughts and answer questions that they may be too embarressed to ask other people.  It also shows me how many incredible potential parents there are out there who don't yet have their family and re-affirms the work I do.

At the end of this year's show, another exhibitor asked me "I get that you can help periods, but I don...

When I was in my early teens I used to get terrible period pains and someone told me about her story.  We were both classical musicians and as such we had been getting Alexander Technique integrated into our training.

However, she had gone to a private teacher and done a lot of one to one work with them.  Over a period of 4 months, she grew an inch and her periods re-started again!  I soon came to love Alexander Technique as a way of keeping my spinal health in a good place and had many years of...

I have had a number of women contacting me recently with heartbreaking stories about their PCOS or other female health disorders.  And as such I felt compelled to share my own story with you all.

There is a very good chance you are reading this and thinking, "What? How can she be grateful? It wrecked my relationships, self esteem, work and turned my life upside down?" and I hear you.  I was there once too.

About Me

From the age of 11, I had heavy periods, so heavy that two tampons all for heavy and...

90% of non pregnant women have a misplaced uterus (I learnt this in my training but in all honesty, in my 5 years of clinical practice, I have yet to come across a uterus in its proper exact anatomical position).  By that I mean that their uterus isn’t in perfect anatomical position as you see in diagrams.  This isn’t actually a problem unless she isn’t moving around easily and you start having issues such as bad period pain, cramps, back pain, migraines, nausea, PMS, constipation or loose stool...

One of my online self massage clients asked me “my period has been fine for years but it’s just gotten out of whack recently, my friend says it could be stress.  Is this true and how does it affect my period?”

This is a fantastic question and highlights the issue of stress we all experience.  Life has recovered from the post holiday slump, we are starting our spring projects.  And everyone seems to be busy, I don’t know about you, but I am certainly feeling a little overwhelmed and dare I say it...

One question my Womb Massage and Reflexology clients ask me a lot is: “how much period pain is normal?”  If you (like me) have ever been doubled up with a hot water bottle having taken more painkillers and evening primrose tablets than a well stocked pharmacy, praying and pleading with the great unknown, you will have asked this question to yourself on a regular basis.

I remember in my training to finding out: “period pain ISN’T normal, it’s a symptom” which is great news as that means that...
