As someone who works with women with period problems and who spent thousand of hours learning to become a Natural Family Planning and Fertility Awareness Educator, I am always keen to research different charting methods.

I love the different things that they tell you about your cycle and in all honesty, in many cases, a client who comes in with a few months of charts can give me more to go on, than with tests that may or may not have been done at the right time of the month to be meaningful.

Until...

One of the things many fertility clients come to me with is "why am I not getting pregnant when I am trying around/after I have ovulated?".  They are so upset and frustrated and feel that their body has let them down.  Assuming these women have no underlying conditions or hormonal imbalances, what else can they do?

Well, it may surprise you to know that there is an optimal window for trying to conceive, but not always when you think.  Many women assume it is between ovulation and menstruatio...

Do you remember having Sex Ed at school and you were told that you could get pregnant at any time?  Or maybe you had an accident and rushed to get the morning after pill because any unprotected sex pretty much leads to pregnancy, right?

Well if you were told any of the above you may be surprised to know that we are actually only fertile for a few days each month.  If this is shocking news to you, then please do read on as all will be revealed.

Let's Talk About The Menstrual Cycle

I did a post on th...

One thing many fertility clients keep asking me is what is the most important thing that they can do before actively trying to conceive a child and my answer is always the same: take time to do some pre-conception preparation.

This is simply taking some time before actively trying to conceive to get your health into top shape.  It can help your journey in a number of ways:

  • Getting both partners physical health and reproductive health into its optimal state both so that there are less issues wi...

Nearly every post I write about cycle charting, whether on this site or guest blogging, I regularly get people asking me in the comments "Am I pregnant?" and "Can you tell without taking a pregnancy test?" I even get many other women's health practitioners asking me this too.

There are a whole host of classic signs of earlier pregnancy many of them could be a sign of other things.  Let's take a look at these common symptoms:

  • implantation bleeding

  • cramping

  • back ache

  • tende...

This is a topic that keeps popping up over and over again.  So many of my clients are asking me about it at the moment it seems to be making a come back.  I am going to preface this discussion with:  I do not teach withdrawal as I am not qualified to.  I don't know much about it other than my research below and IF YOU ARE INTERESTED IN USING IT AS YOUR METHOD OF CONTRACEPTION, YOU MUST SEEK FURTHER ADVICE AND DO YOUR OWN RESEARCH FIRST.

Now I have made it clear that this article is...

I have come been asked this question by clients in so many scenarios.  "I haven't had a period yet, can I get pregnant?" or they just assume they won't get pregnant until they see a period.  The a few situations in which I see this the most are:

  • In teenagers who haven't started their periods yet.

  • Women who have given birth and haven't yet resumed their periods.

  • Women coming off the pill or other contraception methods that stopped their reproductive system.

  • Women who h...

One of the common misconceptions I come across a lot is so many people think that Sympto-Thermal Methods such as Natural Family Planning (NFP) and Fertility Awareness (FAM) are variations of the rhythm method.  But this couldn't be further from the truth.  Let me explain why.

The Rhythm Method

This is a based on the theory in which women had 28 day cycles and always ovulate on day 14.  Different variations will tell you that you can get pregnant by having intercourse before day 14, on day 14...

One question my pre-conception and fertility clients frequently ask me is how long should they start preparing their bodies for pregnancy.  This is such a great question, I just had to right a blog on it.

There are several things that are important to consider.  How ready are you mentally and as a couple to have a baby?  What condition are the parents in physically as the moment?  And of course, do you feel ready for a baby.

In theory, perfect health means perfect fertility so we should...

One of the most annoying and frustrating things that my fertility clients hear from well meaning family and friends saying "just relax, de-stress and forget about it and you will get pregnant".  Which (ironically) usually adds to the stress of trying to conceive.

So is there any truth behind this at all?  Let's break it down and take a look.

How Stress Affects Ovulation

When my clients are charting their cycles, they will notice that sometimes, they will get months where they get all the signs...
